[WINFIELD BUSINESS FIRMS.]

Winfield Courier, March 27, 1879.

The following is a list of the principal business firms of Winfield.

MILLINERY.

Mme. Roland; Mrs. Stump; Mrs. Kretsinger; Mrs. Anne Harris; Miss J. E. Mansfield; Mrs. Whitehead.

And now we come to a mystery! I found the following listing in 1873 City of Winfield census: Jacob Riehl, 34; spouse, Eliza, 26. Later in 1880 census: Eliza J. Rhiel, 33, was listed. Winfield Directory 1880 listed Mrs. A. E. Rielh, residence Millington, northwest corner Park. I did not find the name of “Reil” anywhere. MAW

The following entry relative to “Nate Roberson” shows the name of “Jacob Rhiel.”

Winfield Courier, August 17, 1876.

Take Notice. Having sold my harness shop and wishing to move, I hereby request all patrons indebted to me to call and settle before Sept. 1st, 1876. Bills not paid by that time will be left with my attorney for collection, so come and pay up and save costs. Jacob Rhiel will receive payments in my absence, at my old stand. NATE ROBERSON.

Newspaper item that caused all the confusion follows...
