D. D. Kellogg was born in New York State in 1837. At the age of 21, he moved to Illinois to farm. He married Miss Annie D. Walworth in Illinois. They had four children: Ora, Frank D. William D., and Pearlie.
In the spring of 1870 the D. D. Kellogg family moved to Vernon Township to farm and in 1882 he entered the hardware business in Udall.
D. D. Kellogg, age 35, and his wife, A. D. Kellogg, age 31, were listed in the Vernon township census of 1873. Mr. Kellogg had a Mrs. A. Kerr living with them.

Mr. D. D. Kellogg, of Vernon township, has a fine residence and a large peach and apple orchard. He has this spring set out 7,000 forest trees and has besides a large number of older forest trees.

We are informed that D. D. Kellogg has rented his two farms, foreclosed three lots in Udall, and will start a large hardware store at that place.

A new town is to be laid out in Cowley County, about six miles [TWO LINES COMPLETELY OBSCURED] west of Winfield, [? to the ?] K. C., L. & S. railroad. The projector of the enterprise is a Mr. D. D. Kellogg, of Udall, who we believe, owns the land on which the new town is to be located. The object is to furnish better shipping facilities for the stock and grain raised in that section of the country, in lessening the distance to a market. The name of Cowley’s latest child has not yet been determined upon.

Cowley County is to have a new town, Kellogg, situated six miles west of Winfield, on the K. C. L. & S. Railroad.
The post office opened August 19, 1884 with Jefferson S. Bryan as postmaster. The office closed November 30, 1910.

The new town of Kellogg, in Vernon Township, this county, is beginning to assume shape. The Southern Kansas Railroad has put in several hundred feet of switch track and will erect a depot soon. The lumber is on the ground for a store building. Mr. D. D. Kellogg owns the land on which this new town is located. Its object is to furnish better shipping facilities for the farmers of that vicinity.

The farmers of Vernon Township, Cowley County, have organized a stock company for the purpose of building a roller grist mill at Kellogg. Ten thousand dollars of the stock is already subscribed. The mill is to cost $25,000 and will have a capacity of 150 barrels per day.

In Mount Zion cemetery there are tombstones as follows.
Dolphus D. Kellogg, born June 26, 1835, in Jefferson County, New York, married in 1860 to Anna D. Walworth. She was born September 27, 1841, in New York City, New York, and died in Vernon township November 5, 1918. He died January 19, 1918, in Vernon township. There are stones for four of their children: infant, died November 12, 1876, at the age of six weeks; Nora J. Kellogg, who died November 16, 1877, at the age of 4 months and 16 days; Frank L. Kellogg, who was born October 10, 1873, and died January 2, 1895; William Kellogg (foster son) born June 6, 1865, in Illinois and died December 6, 1938, in Vernon township, Pearl B. Kellogg, who married a Mr. McClung, who was born November 11, 1879, and died May 13, 1901.
