The Vikings took the initial kickoff and drove 48 yards with Jan Cobble sneaking over from the two yard line. The try for point failed.
Near the end of the period Bluejay John Whaley broke off tackle and went 61 yards to knot the score at 6-6 with that try for point also being unsuccessful.
Midway thru the second quarter Cobble pegged a stike to end Leon Ahlerich on a play covering a total of 80 yards and a score. This time David Norris kicked the extra point to give the Vikings a 13-6 halftime lead.
Winfield struck for the final tally of the game early in the third frame by engineering a drive from the Viking 48 which was culminated with fullback Jim Davis bulling over from the two. The try for point failed again for Winfield and with that the scoring threat from both squads ended.
Winfield is slated to assist Arkansas City in the celebration of Veterans Day November 11 at Arkansas City in an afternoot contest which will determine the Ark Valley League champion.

Winfield high school's Vikings, bouncing back from a bad seige of flu and colds, defeated Caldwell's Bluejays, 19-6, in a non-league football game at Sonner Sradium last night.
It was the fifth victory for Coach Joe Vann's Vikes against against two defeats. The team plays Ark City in the Bulldog kennel next Monday (Vetrans Day), then meets Augusta here on Nov. 15 to complete its 1957 schedule.
The Vikes last night plainly showed the effects of the outbreak of flu. The team had a hard time maintaining a sustained drive but struck three time to cross while giving up one touchdown.
Caldwell wasted little time in knotting the count. Winfield kicked off and John Whaley and Marvin Schmidt lugged the ball up to the 39-yard. At that point Whaley broke off tackle and went 61 yards to scory. A plunge for the extra point failed and the score was tied at 6-6.
That was all for the first period but the second also saw some action. The Vikes took the kickoff after the Bluejay score and rushed for three first downs but Caldwell recovered a Winfield fumble. Caldwell failed to gain and punted but the kick was plocked and Winfield got possession on the Bluejay 15. However, the Vikes lost the ball on a fumble but Caldwell soon punted. Winfield handed the ball back on a fumble and the Bluejays attempted to get a drive going but could not gain and gave the ball up on downs on the Winfield 20-yard.
On the first scrimmage play cobble passed to Leon Ahlerich and the big end broke into the clear and raced for a touchdown. Pas and run netted an even 80 yards. David Norris kicked the extra point and Winfield led, 13-6, at the half.
At the start of the second half Winfield received and Jim Davis made a good return. Davis dashed 14 for a first down; Akin and Davis collaborated on another, then Melburn Brown got loose for a 26-yard dash, being brought down close to the Caldwell goal. Brown made half the distance to the goal, then Davis went over for the touchdown. Norris missed the extra point and Winfield held a lead of 19-6.
Caldwell, late in the third, started a drive, and reeled off three first downs but the thrust fizzled an the Bluejays punted. Winfield had to punt as the third period ended.
In the last heat Winfield started another drive. Mel Brown got the push started with a 26-yard gallop and Phil Hower kept it alive with a 14-yard thrust. But Tom Sanders broke it up by intercepting a pass. Caldwell was contained and punted. The Vikes started another push but it came to a jarring halt when Charles Hennen intercepted anothe pass and raced bcak to his own 43 after grabbing the ball on his own 10. Caldwell rolled to two first downs but Cobble intercepted a pass and halted the push. Winfield made another first down as the game ended.
The Vikings now can turn their attention to preparations for the clash with Arkansas City on Veterans Day. It is the final Valley game of the season for the Vikes who have only one loss in league play.
CARE FOR A LITTLE BALLET ANYONE? This bit of dancing and arm flailing came in the fourth quarter in the Winfield - Caldwell football contest last night when Winfield's Phil Hower, left front, and Caldwell's Charles Hennen fought for a Viking pass. Tom Sanders (63) ended up with the ball for Caldwell. Leon Ahlerich (84) is coming in but was too late for the fun. (McCuistion photos)
