Builders Go to Pittsburg;
Vikings Travel to Arkansas City

Both of Winfield's major football teams travel for their next games. The Builders go to Pittsburg today for their final CIC contest with the Gorillas while the Vikings travel to Arkansas City Monday to wind up their Ark Valley League play.

Neither of the local squads will be at full strength because of injuries and the flu. Both teams have been hit hard of late by illness and by injuries sustained in practice and in play.

The Pittsburg Gorillas are expected to have no trouble with the crippled Builders tonight at Pittsburg. The apes are unbeaten for the season and their only close call in CIC play was when they broke a tie with a late field goal to defeat St. Benedict's, 17-14.

In manother other games the Apemen have run all over their opponents. The Builders plan a desperate defense tonight but will go into the game as underdogs.

Vital Game for Vikes

The high school Vikings also face tough opposition at Arkansas City. The Vikes were put out of business last week by and outbreak of flu and colds. Only a few football players managed to get to school and the game with Agusta was postponed. Enough boys straggled back to school to get 31 in suits against Caldwell last Wednesday night, the Vikes winning, 19-6. At the same time the Bulldogs of Ark City were defeating El Dorado 26-0.

Winfield has a chance Monday afternoon to win the Valley title. Ark City has not been defeated but has played one tie, that with Hutchinson, a team beaten by Winfield, 19-0. However , by other lines of comparative scoring the Arks loom as favorites.

Winfield has lost one Valley game, that being to Wellington by 12-13.

Those Vikings who appeared against Caldwell earlier this week appeared to lack stamina, due to recent colds and flu. The team may be in better physical trim Monday when the vital battle with the Bulldogs comes up. Ark City has also had some losses from flu but apparently not on such a wholesale scale as Winfield.
