Austin 3D Users Group Meeting
Wed. Feb. 27, 2008 at 6:30 pm at ACC Highland Business Center,
5930 Middle Fiskville Rd., Austin, TX 78752(see Map).
We will be in The Boardroom, Room 201.0

This month's topic is Rendering, and specifically Big Rendering Projects. We will look at both Big Resolution projects and Big Animation projects. Luke Gustafson of DataHouse Studios will show some his ongoing Big Projects. Luke has learned a great deal about how to set the parameters in Mental Ray. He will discuss which parameters make a difference in quality, and which ones only add time. He is doing some very impressive work. Most projects do only high resolution rendering or animation. Luke is doing HD resolution animations. This really puts multiples on the time required. One of his projects had a 5000 hr. projected completion time. This is why he dug into this problem and why it may be important to you. Whether you render on your own system, your own render farm, or on a commercial render farm, you need to know how to estimate render times and how to budget for them.

We will welcome anyone else who is gaining experience in Big Rendering. Come and tell us what you have discovered.
